1st Figaro Run, Race to Save the Barako Tree
Our 3rd run for the year happened this weekend at the fundraising event entitled 1st Figaro Fun Run “Race to Save the Barako Tree” at Bonifacio High Street, The Fort. This fun run aims to raise funds in support of the farmers who grow and preserve the native Barako Tree which is believed to produce one of the world’s finest coffee.
The registration fee is a little stiff at P450 for 3k category, P500 for a 5k category and P550 for 10k category. This includes a singlet, bib and loot bag. A light breakfast was served before and after the race. Supporting this endeavor isn’t a trouble at all since I’m the biggest coffee drinker you’ll ever know and I think I have more coffee rather than blood running through my veins.
We participated in 5k category, and finished the race in 40-45 minutes. Unlike my first run, I have establish a good form and a healthier heart this time.
The disappointing part was the event organizer’s failure to provide timing chips and mile markers for the race. We are all looking forward to beat our personal record, keen to know if we bested ourselves from our previous run. My goal is to knock off my 49:41 minutes record from Miles for Smiles run last month. My accidental race to 5k.
I don’t have a watch with me, like many runners, time is vital to any race. Timing chip is something we should require next time we join the race.
Anyways, thanks to the other sponsors, Nature Valley, Gardenia, San Marino Brand, 100 plus and Summit Water for filling us up after the race.
No race ends without a photobooth experience. Me, hubby and our race buddy, Dang.
